Why we chose Stellar for Pocket Arena?

Ethereum, Ethereum, Ethereum. You cannot but notice the popularity of ICOs popping up, basing their startup on Ethereum (ERC20).

At first glance this is understandable due to its convenient use of smart contracts, though this was not enough for our vision.

To truly build a fully functional dApp, Web 2.0 compliant, we needed a foundation which would allow us to offer our users instant transactions at minimal cost.

This is where Etherium fell short, as the current gas rate is far too high to have any real world use, and the TPS (transactions per second) is too slow. Both of these factors deteriorate exponentially under high demand.

“Stellar offers high TPS at a very minimal cost”

It is well known that Crypto Kitties, the Kitten breeding and trading game we all love to hate, hit its user ATH of around 600 users in December 2017 and currently has a DAU (Daily active users) of around 400, give or take. During its ATH it single handedly managed to clog up the entire Ethereum network, bringing it to a halt. This was just one app. We needed something more reliable.

Stellar offers high TPS at a very minimal cost, meaning there is no cost for the user. This aspect is important as it allows the ins and outs of how Pocket Arena works to be out of sight and by extension, out of mind.

The back end will remain just that, the back end.

To be openly accessible for all users of varying technical levels, we need things to be simple to understand and use.

Akin to Tesla owners not needing to be mechanics to drive one; while it certainly helps, it is by no means a prerequisite.

Another attractive feature of Stellar which helps simplify the user’s experience is the support of browser wallets. This is crucial for cutting out the cumbersome requirement of a third party wallet for users to use our dApp, such as Metamask. Users will be able to withdraw their POC directly from their browser wallet to a different wallet of their choosing, further down the line when we add this feature in. Keeping the starting wallet (browser wallet) tied to the user account we felt was initially was a good place to start for simplicity, allowing new users getting to know the Pocket Arena eco-system for the first time, who may have never even heard about Crypto, let alone MetaMask, to hit the ground running and start playing without a myriad of requirement hoops to jump through.

Looking back, we feel we made the right decision as it not only ticked all the boxes, but it also works flawlessly.

PA SDK update

Pocket Arena SDK is nearing completion, and is currently going through QA.

We are aiming to have the SDK out and in your hands by the end of November, though this is just our target we are working towards and is subject to change.

The easy to use SDK will give you the power to incorporate Pocket Arena into your own HTML5 games, providing to with all the benefits that the PA ecosystem offers.

In short, this means that for each POC transaction which happens in your game (player achievements, rewards, purchases, milestones, challenges etc) you as the developer will earn 10% for yourself. This new method of monetisation works as a fantastic additional revenue stream for your games, and can be used as well as you running ads.

Stay tuned for more information.

ROBUST PLAN of Pocket Arena Ecosystem until Jan 2019

Advantages of PA games

PA games does not require any plug-ins like MetaMask and it plays, without download, on any internet & mobile browser. It does not feel like a game running on the blockchain, as it is very responsive and works seamlessly on any browser. POC runs on the Stellar network so as the cost of each transaction is so small, it is not passed onto the user. Yet users still benefit from blockchain technology to receive real world benefits along with pathing the way to enable a virtual item exchange for their in-game digital assets.

A total of 400,000,000 POC (40% of total minted POC) are allocated for POC rewards for PA end users.

No. of PA Wallet users * Daily Active User = the number of ledger transaction

DAU will increase when users are:

  • -inviting friends
  • -playing games
  • -buying game items
  • -participating championships

10% of every POC earned by game users will be reserved for the game developers, so it is a great incentivised motivation for game developers to participate in PA projects and help grow the PA ecosystem.

How to grow the PA wallet users

1. Through external publishing partners

Currently Brick Breaker Quest is a one of top ranked games on Facebook Instant Game developed by Emoji Games, generating c.a. 450,000 DAU everyday. This game will be launched as PA version from Aug 20th 2018.

On top of that, we also have 9 more high quality advanced HTML5 games preparing to be launched for the PA platform by the end of 2019.

We shall soon publish these games in partnership with the major game portals worldwide, which shall provide us with additional revenue from advertising. We feel confident about being published by these worldwide partners as they have shown a lot of interest and are keen to have high quality games released on their portals.

2.Through Branded Mini-Games with Casual eSports service

Based on our know-how and experience working with international brands, we will provide a free branded game production service  – asking only that the brands bears the cost for publishing, advertising on third-party platforms and any user prizes their campaign may include. Brands can effectively engage with users and grow their fans through their own branded games and at the same time, we can grow our PA user base through users opt ins.

See details of the BMG Casual eSports offer.

Our aim to to increase the DAU of PA.

Considering the CryptoKitties DAU is below 400 a day. using this strategy for next 6 months by Feb 2019, PA aims to grow the DAU by 10,000 a day within a next 6 months.

This figure will satisfy the requirements of most major crypto exchanges for listing, such as Bittrex.
